How are the sites called if no rewrite?

Hello Team. I am writing a module to expand the features of my installation. I have a question on how the pages are called. If I disable mod rewrite, which file exactly is called to dynamically load the sites? I need to pass some variables so I am trying to figure out which php file processes the sites.
